Blessing of Candles and Blessing of the Throats
This year on the Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time, we will be celebrating the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. It is an ancient tradition for candles to be blessed on this day as we celebrate the coming of Christ, the Light of the World. We pray that by the power of the Holy Spirit, we might also become beacons of Christ’s light to all.
Please bring your candles and have them blessed at the 5PM Holy Mass (February 1st).
Also, in commemoration of the Feast of Saint Blaise (February 3), two candles are blessed, and pressed against the throat while a prayer of blessing is said. Legend has it that a mother brought to Saint Blaise her dying son who had a fishbone stuck in his throat and got miraculously healed.
We will have the Blessing of the Throats after the 5PM Holy Mass (February 1st).
"The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1)
