The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15) is a Holy Day of Obligation.

This solemnity proclaims that the Blessed Virgin Mary, the first and model disciple of Christ, had been taken up, body and soul, into heaven at the end of her earthly life, a doctrine that was dogmatically defined in 1950 by Pope Pius XII.

Let us consider what a moment the Assumption must have been for our Blessed Mother! In describing this scene, some Church Fathers spoke of Jesus himself coming back to earth to take his mother and bring her to her heavenly home. More recently, John Paul II said that the Assumption truly was an event of love, in which Mary’s ardent longing to be with her son was finally fulfilled. Her assumption—which flows from her unique participation in Christ’s victory as the mother of the Savior and as the first and most faithful of Christ’s followers—anticipates our own share in the fullness of that victory if we persevere as followers of Christ. source: www.franciscanmedia.org

And so, we pray that Christ Jesus, our Lord, son of the Living God, and son of Mary, will come back to take and bring us all to His eternal home in heaven.  Mary, Queen assumed into heaven, pray for us.

"And the dead in Christ will rise first; then we who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we shall always be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
