The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15) is a Holy Day of Obligation.
Holy Day of Obligation Masses at St. Luke
Vigil - August 14th - 5:00pm
Feast Day - August 15th - 8:30am & 5:30pm
This solemnity proclaims that the Blessed Virgin Mary had been taken up, body and soul, into heaven at the end of her earthly life, a doctrine that was dogmatically defined in 1950 by Pope Pius XII. The Assumption completes God's work in Her since it was not fitting that the flesh that had given life to God Himself should ever undergo corruption. The Assumption is God's crowning of His work as Mary ends Her earthly life and enters eternity. The feast turns our eyes in that heavenly direction, where we will follow when our earthly life is over. Let us offer our praise and thanks for Christ’s promise that we too will be received into God’s paradise. Mary, Queen assumed into heaven, pray for us! www.franciscanmedia.org
