San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone is asking us to join a statewide Novena (nine days of prayer), August 3 - 11, seeking the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe--patroness of unborn children--to defeat a dangerous and unprecedented piece of legislation, Senate Bill 24, that would require medication abortion to be dispensed at California State University and University of California campus health centers.
Archbishop Cordileone urges the faithful to pray as well as to write and call their lawmakers to oppose the legislative bill. The bill can be read in its entirety here.
Archbishop Cordileone will celebrate Mass at 9:00 a.m.on Sunday, August 11, at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, to conclude the Novena, asking the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe to defeat Senate Bill 24. Novena Prayer for the Defeat of Senate Bill 24
Virgin of Guadalupe,
Mother of the Christ Child and Patroness of all unborn children,
We implore your intercession
for the defeat of Senate Bill 24 and for the protection of all human life.
Guide our public officials to see the tragedy and injustice of abortion
and to defend each and every human life through just laws.
Inspire us all to bring our faith into public life,
to speak for those who have no voice.
We ask this in the name of your Son,
Jesus Christ, who is Love and Mercy itself.
Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
Please pray each day starting August 3 until August 11 for the protection of infants and young college-age women from the scourge of abortion.
