This year on the Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time, we will be celebrating the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.  It is an ancient tradition for candles to be blessed on this day as we celebrate the coming of Christ, the Light of the World.  We pray that by the power of the Holy Spirit, we might also become beacons of Christ’s light to all.

Please bring your candles and have them blessed at all weekend Masses on February 1st and 2nd.

Also, in commemoration of the Feast of Saint Blaise (February 3), two candles are blessed, and pressed against the throat while a prayer of blessing is said.  Legend has it that a mother brought to Saint Blaise her dying son who had a fishbone stuck in his throat and got miraculously healed.

We will have the Blessing of the Throats after the weekend Masses on February 1st and 2nd.

"I am the light of the world, [says the Lord]. Whoever follows [Christ] will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
