Ash Wednesday (February 26, 2020)

Posted on February 19, 2020 in: General News

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten Season.

Our ASH WEDNESDAY MASSES are at

8:30am, 12:10pm, 5:30pm and 7:00pm

As part of our Mass liturgies, we will be signed on our foreheads with ashes, reminding us of the new church liturgical season, giving us hope for a new heart and a new life as disciples of Jesus Christ.

LENTEN REGULATIONS:

ABSTINENCE: Everyone fourteen (14) years of age and older is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday

FAST: Every one eighteen (18) years of age and older but under the age of sixty (60) is also bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The law of fast allows one full meal a day, but does not prohibit taking some food during the day, so long as this does not constitute another full meal.

“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster. Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord your God? (Joel 2:12-14)
