Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
"Go your way; your faith has saved you."
This weekend, as we celebrate World Mission Sunday, we hear these words of Christ echoing in our hearts. Christ sends us forth, calling us to go our way. He arms us with the shield of faith as we bring His Good News to the whole world.
"Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you."
In our world today, we encounter a lot of Bartimaeuses, the blind beggar in this Sunday's Gospel, who are at the difficult roadside of life. We hear their cries for help, waiting for the Lord of mercies to come. Christ needs us today to fulfill His saving work. Christ commissions us to extend His merciful hand to our brothers and sisters who need encouragement and hope during moments of trouble and despair. Christ asks us to lift up the burden of those who suffer and are in distress. Christ breathes forth His Spirit upon us to help bring His light to those who are trapped in darkness and sin.
World Mission Sunday allows us to bring forth the light of Christ's love and healing as we come in solidarity with the Mission Church. “The global pandemic has brought to the fore and amplified the pain, the solitude, the poverty, and the injustices experienced by so many people,” reminds Pope Francis. Your prayer, sacrifice and generous support by giving to the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith will sustain the Pope's mission of alleviating global poverty and injustice and will assist the 1,100 mission dioceses in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe.
And as we celebrate Christ's saving mission in the Eucharistic Feast, let us recommit ourselves to the service of the poor and the neglected in our Church, in our families and communities. Let the Spirit of the Lord illumine our hearts so that we can bear witness to our faith in Christ, our loving Savior. Let us proclaim with gladness His great works so that the merciful love of God will shine forth through all the ends of the earth.
God is Love,
